Kosovo Ministry State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic says a partition of Kosovo was "out of the question" and that the government "had not changed its stand". The government continues to abide by the Constitution, which says that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia, Ivanovic noted, speaking on Tuesday. Kosovo ministry official rejects partition ideas Belgrade's policy towards Kosovo is based on the Constitution and decisions made by parliament, he added. "Most of the remaining Serb population in Kosovo is south of the Ibar River and everything that is important for Serbian identity, culture and history is also there, he stated, adding that therefore, it would be disastrous to divide Kosovo," said he. Serbs in the south live in isolated enclaves, while in the north they are a majority which rejects the authority of the Kosovo Albanian government in Pristina. "Many of those who have joined Serbia in saying that Kosovo cannot be independent would change their mind if a division were accepted, which would then open the door of the UN to Kosovo," Ivanovic said. A partition would also incite similar ideas in some other parts of Serbia, like Sandzak, or even other parts of the Balkans, like the Serb republic (RS) in Bosnia, he said. "It would reopen the issues we have been trying to close all these years," said Ivanovic. The possibility that the partitioning of the province could be discussed was floated publicly in an interview given last week by the head of the Belgrade team in the ongoing Kosovo dialogue, Borko Stefanovic.
