A campaign will begin in eight cities on Tuesday, hoping to collect one million signatures in support of foundation of a regional commission. Coalition REKOM is hoping to set up a commission that would establish facts concerning war crimes and other serious violations of human rights committed in the territory of former Yugoslavia from 1991 to 2001. "Million signatures for REKOM" This was announced today in Belgrade by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights. The campaign, that will last until early June, will be taking place in Belgrade, Pristina, Sarajevo, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Banja Luka, Skopje and Podgorica. Ten years after armed clashes in the territory of former Yugoslavia ended, the registry of victims has not been completed yet in any of the former Yugoslavia republics, and over 15,000 people are still registered as missing, said the statement. Over 1,500 associations and individuals of all nations and religions from the territory of former Yugoslavia gathered in the Coalition for REKOM to back the constitution of an independent inter-state commission as an extra-judicial investigative body in charge of establishing the facts about wartime events and making them public. The associations supporting the foundation of REKOM comprise associations of families of victims, missing persons, veterans, camp inmates, reporters, minority communities and human rights organizations. The signatures in favor of setting up of the commission will be submitted to all parliaments in the region in June 2011, together with the draft constitution of the organization. The commission has so far been backed by Serbian President Boris Tadic, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, the Montenegrin parliament, the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as by many public figures from the region.
