The committee gathers countries that are donors engaged in the Palestinian territories. The Palestinians have previously said that they will ask the UN General Assembly when it meets in September to recognize the territories as their state, and in the pre-Six Day War borders. During that war in 1967, Israel came under attack from an alliance of several neighboring Arab states, but emerged victorious, ending the war by occupying the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, the Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula. On Monday, Israeli PM Binyamin Netanyahu met with EU ambassadors in Jerusalem, and according to reports, accused the international community - "people with good intentions" as he referred to them - of putting peace even further out of reach "by telling the Palestinians that they don't have to negotiate".
