The West and the regional countries would like to see Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic in power, says a former colleague. This is the case "since they are certain that he would be much more ready to cooperate and that he would be willing to do all that Serbian President Boris Tadic may not accept," Serb Radical Party (SRS) Deputy President Dragan Todorovic stated in an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Danas. "West would like to see Nikolic in power" He said that there is no major difference between Tadic and Nikolic since they are both here to meet the demands of Brussels and Washington. He denied speculations that SRS and the ruling Democratic Party (DS) have agreed about possible cooperation in the parliament. “The goal of SRS is not to come to power and such speculations are completely groundless,” Todorovic said. Commenting opinion polls that showed SRS currently supported by seven percent of voters, Todorovic said that ratings were "not important to the party but rather the fact that former members are coming back". SNS emerged as an offshoot of SRS in 2008, taking a chunk of SRS MPs with it. The Progressives are yet to be tested in a general election, but have consistently polled as one of the country's favorite parties.
