Opposition New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilic says the "united opposition" will win in the next elections "with or without Vojislav Kostunica". But Ilic noted that should Kostunica's DSS party join that coalition, "a convincing victory would be ensured". Opposition party leader certain of victory The country is due to go to the polls next spring, but the opposition led by Tomislav Nikolic's Progressives (SNS) insists on early elections, and Ilic told B92 that this should happen in the fall. He said it was "impossible to have a campaign in the holiday season", and added that for this reason, "the only real possibility is to call elections for late October or November". Asked whether he discussed the issue of DSS joining the SNS-organized rally scheduled for April 16, Ilic said he was yet to meet with his coalition partner in previous elections, but that he "spoke with Kostunica's associates from DSS about overcoming some problems". Ilic also stated that he hoped a large number of citizens would turn out for the rally in Belgrade, and that opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) voters would choose to cast their ballots "for changes" in the next election. This "renewed opposition alliance", he continued, would certainly win in that election. While Kostunica's participation would make the victory more convincing, his absence would not jeopardize it, Ilic argued. Asked to comment on the speculation that Tomislav Nikolic and the leader of the ruling DS and the country's president, Boris Tadic, "maintain a certain communication", Ilic said he addressed the issue several times in his conversations with Nikolic and that there was "no dilemma there, as Nikolic cleared that up".
