The United Regions of Serbia (URS) has launched a campaign in the central Serbian town of Kragujevac on Saturday aimed at decentralizing power in Serbia. The campaign will include a petition to support the purpose. URS launches campaign for decentralization Among the first to sign it will be the coalition party's leader, Mladjan Dinkic, and his deputy Veroljub Stevanovic, the political organization announced Friday. According to the URS, the campaign to change laws that pose obstacles to decentralization and balanced regional development will be conducted in all cities and towns in Serbia, and its ultimate goal is to ensure that the largest part of tax-collected money in a city is exploited for the benefit of the citizens who have earned it in the first place. The URS are proposing that 80 percent of payroll taxes should be given to local authorities which collect them and that citizens should be allowed to directly elect and dismiss the municipality president and mayor, as well as that local self-governments should be returned the property which has been confiscated from them. Among the first to sign it will be the coalition party's leader, Mlađan Dinkić, and his deputy Veroljub Stevanović, the political organization announced Friday.

According to the URS, the campaign to change laws that pose obstacles to decentralization and balanced regional development will be conducted in all cities and towns in Serbia, and its ultimate goal is to ensure that the largest part of tax-collected money in a city is exploited for the benefit of the citizens who have earned it in the first place.
