Fule on Belgrade-Priština dialogue

EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule said Friday he was very satisfied with the fact that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina had been launched. In a press release he gave after meeting with Kosovo's European Integration Minister Vlora Citaku, he said that the European Commission (EC) was very much involved in the dialogue which is aimed at bringing both Kosovo and Serbia closer to the EU. Fule on Belgrade-Pristina dialogue As regards the reforms which need to be carried out in Kosovo, the EC will present on April 12 a report on Kosovo's progress on its European path, and Fule in this regard said that only six months remained to ensure a concrete and sustainable development when it came to adopting relevant laws and implementing certain measures. According to him, this is a key condition for Kosovo's European perspective and its progress towards democracy, establishing of institutions, combat against corruption and improving the life of people. The EU enlargement commissioner also stated it was crucial for Kosovo to try and resolve only a small number of priority issues this time, instead of trying to do a lot and seeing unsatisfying results. The EC progress report will serve as a guideline for Kosovo, which will have to deal with issues of legislation, combating corruption and organized crime, strengthening the public administration and private sector and creating new jobs. In his release, Fule said that the EC would continue its activities concerning initiatives mentioned in the document on Kosovo from 2009, with the aim of stepping up Kosovo's progress towards the EU and helping it in the preparation for the beginning of visa liberalization negotiations and opportunities for conclusion of a trade agreement. According to the EU enlargement commissioner, the EC has recently presented its proposal for the agreement, according to which Kosovo could participate in the programs of the EU member states, and the EC will continue the high-level dialogue on all relevant issues regarding Kosovo's efforts to move closer to Europe, as well as continue giving Kosovo a substantial financial assistance within the framework of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) program.
