Serbian Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic has stated that it is devastating that seven years later organizers of the March pogrom still have not been found. According to him, the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is necessary in order to prevent new violence. Minister warns Kosovo violence "still possible" “A fact that is both devastating and worrying is that after seven years inspirators and organizers of the March pogrom have not been discovered. Only individuals who participated in the violence were punished and as a rule for minor misdemeanors,” Bogdanovic pointed out. At the same time he warned that there was still a risk of violence in the province. “There is still danger today that the violence will break out in Kosovo and Metohija. The possibility primarily lies in Pristina’s ambition to change the reality in the field at any cost and integrate the province’s north,” the minister said. According to him, this is exactly why Belgrade is warning that violent moves in the north by the Pristina institutions and Albanian extremists would not only destabilize Kosovo but the entire region as well. “We need to turn toward the future and dialogue that will lead us to a historic compromise between the Serbs and Albanians in order to keep suffering and crimes from repeating,” Bogdanovic pointed out. He has assessed that the “dialogue which started is the only right way to gradually solve all disputable issues through argumentative talks and leave behind a century-long conflict, misunderstandings and disputes that have existed between the two peoples.” The minister for Kosovo repeated that a series of political events had launched 2004 March violence and an observation of a part of the international community that the unsolved status was one of the key reasons why the violence broke out and that it had been used as an alibi for illegal proclamation of Kosovo’s independence later. According to him, the international community in Kosovo is responsible for not stopping, finding and punishing the organizers of the March pogrom. He also added that such lack of action appeared to send a message to the Albanian extremists that every crime against the Serbs would go unpunished. Goran Bogdanovic (Tanjug, file)
