Neither the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) nor Vojislav Kostunica can be above the law, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic said. He pointed out that “the government response must be urgent, decisive and uncompromising”. LDP: Kostunica not above law The LDP leader pointed out that Kostunica had no right to hide from justice, quoting alleged political persecution. He also said that the DSS leader had come to power and “surrounded himself with a bunch of associates, advisers, Department of State Security (UDBA) members, anti-Hague-profiteers, the darkest circles of society, organized arrests, rigged court proceedings, false indictments, media lynch, fired and reassigning police officers who led Operation Saber (police operation following Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic’s murder).“ “Contacts with criminals were also personal, connected to his closest circle, and some of the people who took part in it fled the country in the meantime. That unbroken link of political protection of crimes is very clear and its breaking starts with the investigation into all circumstances of the Special Operations Unit (JSO) mutiny,” Jovanovic pointed out. According to him, this is why this moment is so important and the authorities should not make any concessions. “He is exactly counting on this kind of permissiveness, knowing that he has several times before, with the same behavior, gotten out and saved himself from the judicial truth and legal proceeding in which the truth would have been determined and responsibility we have been pointing to for years,” the LDP leader stated. He added that the process of Serbia’s destruction had started with the JSO mutiny in November 2001 and that it was finished by the assassins on March 12, 2003, who created conditions for Kostunica and his associated to take over power only several months later.
