“SPC dignitary must apologize to gays”

Equality Protection Commissioner Nevena Petrusic has instructed Metropolitan Amfilohije Radovic to apologize to participants of the Belgrade Pride Parade. “Metropolitan Amfilohije has undoubtedly violated the Anti-Discrimination Law with his speech regarding the Pride Parade,” she concluded. “SPC dignitary must apologize to gays” The equality protection commissioner has recommended the metropolitan to publically apologize to the participants of the parade that promoted the rights of the LGBT population. “Our recommendation is that Amfilohije makes a public apology to the participants of the Pride Parade,” she told B92. “It would be important to receive a delegation of activists that fight for the rights of sexual minorities in order to become familiar with the problems they are facing,” Petrusic pointed out. “At the same time, the metropolitan should refrain from making statements in the future that incite discrimination, hatred or violence,“ she said. Despite SPC's public call to refrain from violence, Metropolitan Amfilohije openly sided with hooligans prior to the parade. Organization for Lesbian Human Rights Labris' Jovanka Todorovic is pleased with the conclusion that Amfilohije violated the law and expects him to follow the recommendations. “I'm glad the commissioner has given such recommendations, but bearing in mind that we are all familiar with Amfilohije's radical attitide I'm afraid that he will not respect the recommendation,“ she pointed out. Petrusic says that the metropolitan has 30 days to act upon the recommendations. If he fails to do so the commissioner has the right to issue a warning and set a new deadline.
