Serbian War Crimes Prosecution has decided to give up on the criminal prosecution of Tihomir Purda, Danko Maslov and Petar Janjic due to a lack of evidence. The War Crimes Prosecution stated in a release that the decision was made after it had been determined that there is not enough evidence to raise charges for war crimes against the wounded and the sick. Serbia drops case against Purda 44 witnesses were questioned, 13 in Serbia and 31 in Croatia, in the investigation based on a reasonable doubt that they had committed the crimes. The War Crimes Prosecution has notified an investigative judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade who will through the Serbian Justice Ministry inform the Bosnia-Herzegovina Justice Ministry about the decision. The prosecution has determined that none of the suspects was questioned by a military investigative judge because they were unavailable at the time bearing in mind that they had been exchanged in August 1992. The proceedings conducted by the military investigative bodies in 1999 were not conducted in accordance with the legal standards and the decision was made thanks to an exceptional judicial cooperation in the region, especially with the Bosnia-Herzegovina Prosecution and the Croatian State Prosecution.
