Serbian President Boris Tadic has stated that the state will stop everybody who is jeopardizing the safety of its citizens. He has reacted to the threats against journalists, civil sector representatives and ethnic minorities. President: We will protect all citizens “Serbia has never been and will be a country of chauvinism, national intolerance and hate speech. That is why verbal attacks on (NGO Urban-in President) Aida Corovic and attacks and threats made against authors of TV B92 program Insajder should be condemned,” the president pointed out. He also condemned desecration of a monument to Saban Bajramovic in the city of Nis and anti-Roma graffiti. “All citizens of Serbia, regardless of whether they are Roma, Jews, Bosniaks or members of any other people and regardless of their job have to enjoy protection of the competent state bodies and the state will put an end to every threat and attempt to jeopardize safety,” Tadic pointed out. B92 has learned that he will talk to Corovic tomorrow. Democratic Party (DS) Lazarevac Municipal Board has also reacted to the threats against B92 and the Insajder program and condemned the B92 “death notices”. The DS municipal board has called on all state institutions to investigate all the allegations from the Insajder and to punish everybody who participated in illegal activities and also to find and punish those who put up the B92 “death notices”, in order to clear the name of the Lazarevac residents. After B92 had aired its investigative program, which looks into numerous abuses in the Kolubara Coal Mine, the “death notices” for B92 which call for a lynch appeared in Lazarevac. The Muslim Youth Club released a text full of personal insults and open threats as a reaction to Corovic’s text in daily Danas which explained that women who recently wore hijab or headscarves in large numbers in Sandzak were actually in the service of a political option led by Islamic Community in Serbia Chief Mufti Muamer Zukorlic.
