"Genocide suit should not sour relations"

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic says there is no reason for Croatia's response to Serbia's genocide countersuit to jeopardize the good relations. Commenting on Croatia's response at the International Court of Justice on Dec. 20, Josipovic told reporters in Zagreb that the response is "part of the normal process that is unfolding," and that "nothing really spectacular has happened." "Genocide suit should not sour relations" It should not jeopardize continued improvement of the relations between Serbia and Croatia, to the benefit of both sides, he said, Beta news agency reported. Josipovic reiterated that his stance was that Croatia would persevere with its genocide suit as long as the underlying reasons for it were still there, explaining that "it is up to the governments of Croatia and Serbia to assess whether the conditions for possibly dropping the suit exist or whether the proceedings will continue." "This is a matter for both governments and I will not go into it, but am only stressing what the reasons for filing the suit are or the possible reasons for withdrawing it or for an out-of-court settlement," Josipovic stressed.
