Serbian President Boris Tadic did not promote his own stand in Vukovar, but voiced that of the state of Serbia. This is according to a statement issued by the president's cabinet on Saturday in Belgrade, which came "after certain reactions to Tadic's visit in the Croatian public". Tadic voiced Serbia's stance in Vukovar Unlike the Zagreb government, some people in Croatia, most of whom are not officials, are trying to minimize the significance of Tadic's visit to Ovcara, near Vukovar in eastern Croatia, and to errouneously interpret his apology as his personal stand, reported Tanjug. Even before the visit, members of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) made such allegations, and, during Tadic's visit to Vukovar, the party's supporters appeared in the streets bearing banners with contradicting requests, such as “Apology, not sympathy” and “Apology is not enough”. “Tadic is coming for an unofficial visit, so all his stands and gestures are exclusively of personal nature, which means that they are not a part of the official policy,” HSP official Petar Macut stated. Such claims were later made public in daily shows of the Croatian Radiotelevision HRT and the commercial television network TV Nova. When asked to comment on such allegations, representatives of the president's cabinet replied that the visit of President Tadic to Croatia was not of personal, but of official nature. “Everything that President Tadic said in Vukovar, Ovcara and Paulin Dvor is the official stand of the Republic of Serbia,” Tanjug was told at Tadic's cabinet. During the visit, the president himself underlined this point, stressing that in the process of reconciliation, individual gestures are not enough. Tadic in Vukovar (FoNet)
