Ruling SPS party has joined the Democrats in calling on Serbs in Kosovo to take part in elections organized by Kosovo Albanian authorities. Previously, the Liberal-Democrats (LDP) also voiced this stand. Opposition DSS is against such a move. Ruling SPS calls on Serbs to vote Socialist Party official Dejan Radenkovic told Belgrade daily Danas that it would be best for Serbs in Kosovo to have legitimate political representatives in order to achieve their interests and secure better lives for themselves. He also said that this did not mean a recognition if the self-proclaimed statehood of Kosovo. Radenkovic, who is an SPS official of the party's provincial board, believes that diplomatic efforts "to preserve the integrity of Serbia" should be separated from the lives of Serbs in Kosovo, in that they should not "suffer the consequences of that effort", and should have good living conditions. This SPS official added that Serbs participation in the early elections "should not be unconditional". EULEX, UN and other international factors whould be asked to speed up the process of returns of Serbs driven out of their homes in the province and also to solve the key issues of Serbs and other non-Albanians. In Prisitina today, the government of Hashim Thaci is expected to fall, making way for the scheduling of early elections.
