Ivica Dacic says that after a deal on security procedures with the EU, Serbian police officers will be able to take part in the EU missions. According to to the interior minister, he is to sign the agreement with EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in the weeks or months to come. Interior minister on EU missions Dacic underscored that members of the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) are currently involved in two UN peacekeeping missions, in Liberia and Haiti, adding that MUP is ready to participate in several other UN and EU peacekeeping missions. "That is why it is necessary, above all, to sign the agreement on security procedures with the EU, the negotiations on which are already completed," Dacic stressed. Dacic said that the agreement will create conditions for the Serbian police officers to be able to take part in EU peacekeeping missions. He stressed that the EU missions are not military but rather political missions, "which imply helping the police forces of certain countries, but not in performing combat tasks but rather in training and similar activities." The Serbian parliament has adopted the decision on the participation of up to 36 members of MUP and 98 members of the Defense Ministry and the Serbian Army in multinational operations in 2010.
