UNMIK chief in Kosovo Lamberto Zannier has assessed that the dialogue between the Serbian authorities and interim institutions in Pristina is still far away. This, the Italian diplomat said, is due to very different positions of the two sides. Zannier: Belgrade-Pristina dialogue important According to Zannier, the European strategic choice that Serbia has made represents a significant step forward both for the country and the Balkan region, the Italian news agency Ansa reported. At the same time, this offers great opportunities for the solving of the Kosovo issue, Zannier stated at the margins of a diplomatic meeting held in Rome. Zannier believes that it is important for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to lead to the normalization of relations. He stressed that the international recognition of Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence is a political problem, adding that the very UN Security Council is divided regarding the issue, but that the finding of a solution could be facilitated with the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Only 70 out of 192 UN member states have so far recognized the unilateral act of interim institutions of self-government in Pristina.
