Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic has stated that Belgrade-Pristina dialogue should begin with talks about the issue of Kosovo status. He told daily Vecernje novosti that talks about so-called life issues, mentioned by Serbian President Boris Tadic, were actually establishing Kosovo as an independent state. “Kosovo status should be discussed first” “I’m afraid that in the end such agreement with the Albanians will come to parliament and we’ll vote against and the government in favor and there goes Kosovo,” Nikolic said. He stressed that it was necessary to organize a referendum “even though great minds of the DSS (Democratic Party of Serbia) are accusing him of advocating unconstitutional solutions”. “The government is, step by step, indirectly recognizing the independence of Kosovo. And I can already see that independence. That does not mean that I’m recognizing it. But the administrative line with Kosovo is in fact a border. I personally felt that when they wouldn’t let me go to the patriarch’s enthronement,” the SNS leader said. “We have already sent a warning to the EU and our government that status of Serbs north and south of the Ibar River must not change before negotiations. We must convince the public that everybody who wants to change that by force will be sternly punished,” he stressed. Nikolic also said that he would certainly offer Velimir Ilic’s party New Serbia (NS) to take part in a joint electoral list. “I can offer the joint list to the SVM (Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians) too, and I would be pleased if they accepted it,” he explained and added that his party also had good relations with Rasim Ljajic’s Social-Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS). Nikolic pointed out that he had no intention of calling the DSS management anymore. “Let them call now. They came at me with low blows, but I still consider them allies for calling early elections,” he concluded. Tomislav Nikolic (Tanjug, file)
