The visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Belgrade is very important, says Sonja Liht. This is because it offers a chance to deepen dialogue on a range of issues and secure support to Serbia's European integrations, the chairperson of the Serbian Foreign Ministry's Foreign Policy Council said on Monday. "Clinton visit of great importance" After U..S Vice President Joseph Biden broke the ice when he came to Serbia in May 2009, Clinton's visit is an opportunity to talk more extensively on various topics, including those we disagree on such as Kosovo, Liht told Tanjug ahead of Clinton's visit on Tuesday. According to her, a detailed agreement needs to be reached as to how the United States and the EU will coordinate their role and influence in future talks between Belgrade and Pristina. U..S influence is particularly strong in Pristina, on the government as well as the public, Liht said, adding that this means the United States will play a more important role in the talks, but that the whole process will undoubtedly be conducted under the guidance of the EU. "In addition to this, I think it is very important that US officials have already hinted that Clinton will voice strong support for the European integration of Serbia and the whole region," Liht noted. This is especially significant now, as we wait for the Council of Ministers and the European Commission to make some key decisions, she pointed out. "I am sure issues related to Euro-Atlantic integration will also be discussed. Serbia, and especially its Ministry of Defense, have very good cooperation with military structures in the US. This is not insignificant - quite the contrary - in achieving durable stability in the region," Liht pointed out. She also noted there is excellent cooperation in fighting organized crime, which she believes will also be on the agenda, along with wrapping up cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
