The Serbian police union criticized today command-level decisions made during Sunday's anti-gay riots in Belgrade. The union also requested that the police (MUP) conduct an investigation into this, and said they were not satisfied with security estimates concerning the Pride Parade in Belgrade. Police union wants investigation "While the Pride Parade was ongoing in the streets of Belgrade, police members were in danger, and someone in this country will have to be held responsible for that, at long last," said a police union statement. It further noted that some police officers were out in the streets without protection gear and that their ranks were at certain points "decimated by the teargas thrown by their colleagues". Those who did have riot equipment were "literally slowed down in regrouping and fast interventions" by their gear described as "obsolete". 147 police officers were injured yesterday in clashes with anti-gay parade hooligans, five seriously, while more than 15 MUP vehicles were damaged.
