China has a firm stance on Kosovo and will not change its position of respecting the sovereignty of Serbia, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Wei Jinghua said. He stressed that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is one of the pillars of contemporary international legal order. China's Kosovo stance unchanged Wei believes that the advisory opinion of the ICJ is not an obstacle to adequately resolving the issue through negotiations between relevant parties within the framework of the UN Security Council resolution. "We believe the opportunity created when the UN General Assembly passed a resolution on Kosovo should be used to resume the talks on relevant issues," Ambassador Wei Jinghua told Belgrade daily Politika. Asked about his views on the change of the Serbian draft resolution submitted to the UN General Assembly, the ambassador said the Chinese side respects the choice of the Serbian people as well as the domestic and foreign policy of the government of Serbia. He added that China supports dialogue which would lead to a solution acceptable to both sides pursuant to the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The Chinese ambassador pointed out to the deep and traditional friendship between China and Serbia and a commitment of both sides, regardless of changes in the international arena or possible changes within these countries, to continue to respect each other. He reminded that the successful visit of President Boris Tadic to China in August 2009 had lead to a strategic partnership, which introduced the Sino-Serbian relations to a new stage of development. "Even though we are satisfied with good trends of development, that is not sufficient. We support the efforts of powerful Chinese companies in starting cooperation with the Serbian side and taking part in works on infrastructure, such as energy, roads and bridges," Wei said. He added that companies from both countries were also encouraged to expand cooperation to high and new technologies, green economy, agriculture and other areas and are willing to further deepen cooperation in fields of culture, health and sports. This would in turn enrich the strategic partnership between China and Serbia, he told the newspaper. The ambassador underscored that China and Serbia are developing countries and have identical or similar views on many important international issues, the fact that laid strong social and political foundation for a healthy and stable development of the Sino-Serbian relations. Asked about China's position in international relations, Wei said that Beijing strives for a peaceful international situation in order to achieve development and foster the world peace. "In international relations, China carries out an independent peaceful diplomatic policy. We do not interfere with internal affairs of others, nor do we impose our will on them. We pursue a defensive policy and do not present a military threat to any country and will never try to dominate the world", Wei said. The Chinese diplomat concluded by saying that China was efforts toward democratization in international relations and was willing to coexist with all countries throughout the world with which it works on building a harmonious world of peace, development and prosperity.
