Minister for Europe in the British Foreign Office David Lidington has condemned the violence that has taken place in Kosovska Mitrovica recently. He called on the citizens of Kosovo to resolve their problems in a peaceful way. British official condemns violence in K. Mitrovica "I am deeply saddened to hear of the violence and subsequent injuries, including to EULEX, KFOR and Kosovo Police personnel, that occurred over the weekend in Mitrovica,” Lidington said. “This was a senseless action by a small number of perpetrators and I welcome the strong condemnation from the governments of Kosovo and Serbia. The actions of the perpetrators must not be allowed to undermine the unique commitment that has just been agreed on by all sides, to bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region through a period of increased cooperation and dialogue,” he said. The violence started after the Serbian national basketball team was defeated by Turkey in the semi-finals of the FIBA world championship in Istanbul, after which Albanians crossed the bridge dividing northern and southern Kosovska Mitrovica, provoking a reaction from Kosovo Serbs who began throwing rocks at them.
