Opposition SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic has accused ruling Democrats (DS) of conducting a “brutal, wanton and unfounded media campaign” against his party. Vucic specifically named Serbian president’s advisers Nebojsa Krstic and Jasmina Stojanov, and accused them of exerting influence on the media in Serbia. Opposition party accuses Democrats “This campaign shows the hysteria of those in power, and it has been created with a reason which is unclear and unreasonable,” he told reporters during a news conference in Belgrade on Monday. Vucic accused the ruling party of using the media to distract the public's attention from some issues. “If DS decides to kill us all, no problem, I’m counting on it to receive good support, that Krle (Krstic) and Jasmina (Stojanov) notify all the media that the most important news that day will be another arrest of Bogoljub Karic, of another criminal group, and after this, Krle and Jasmina will open one more road near Dimitrovgrad, Ub and Lajkovac, and after that, you may as well shoot all the Progressives, it’s not a problem,” Vucic was quoted as saying. The SNS deputy president said he aimed his criticism principally at the state broadcaster RTS, but said other media outlets "weren't far behind". Vucic also invited Justice Minister Snezana Malovic to a TV debate "on any regime TV, since there is no other kind", and accused DS of appointing its own party members as judges. The SNS official stressed that judges who had not been appointed had joined his party because they had a right to freedom of political opinion and wanted a better life since the government had “taken away their right to life and work”. Recently, SNS announced that as many as 650 former judges had joined its ranks, which drew criticism from the Democrats. But he also noted that his party was not an enemy of the Democrats, rather that it was its "political adversary who wanted normal relations". “SNS’s intention is to always work in the interest of the state but it is not realistic that support to the ruling coalition will be frequent’,” Vucic said, and added that the Progressives had supported the government’s moves before over what they saw as national and state interests, such as those concerning Kosovo.
