The most brutal killer of the Zemun Clan, Sretko Kalinic, said that he was trying to strike a deal with prosecutors in Belgrade. The member of the notorious organized crime group, sentenced in Serbia in absentia to a total of 70 years in prison for his role in the 2003 assassination of Zoran Djindjic, and 19 other murders, will reportedly be looking for less jail time. Zemun Clan killer looking for deal Kalinic, a Croat citizen who is currently in a hospital in Croatia awaiting extradition to Serbia, said that he was negotiating with the government in Belgrade to have his 40-year sentence for the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic reduced in exchange for information regarding other unsolved crimes related to the Zemun Clan. “I am in favor of a deal. For every unsolved case I give them details about, they can take a year off my sentence. In the end, I will have positive numbers and they will owe me,” Kalinic reportedly said. According to local media in Croatia, Kalinic talks frequently to police and staff guarding him in the hospital, and said that fellow Zemun Clan member Milos Simovic, who allegedly shot and wounded him, and is now in custody in Serbia, was "done for, once I lay my hands on him". Reports in the Croatian press also take bizarre turns when they quote Kalinic's reaction to recent local crime cases, such as that when an 82 year-old woman in a geriatric home killed two other elderly people there with an ax. Kalinic, nicknamed Zver (Beast), who was cited recently as admitting to "killing, chopping and mincing" fellow gangsters, wondered “what this world was coming to”.
