EPS favors huge price hike

Serbia's public electric company EPS officials say that the price of electricity should rise "by 35 to 40 percent". However, when the company's Managing Board President Aca Markovic spoke in Belgrade this Thursday, he could not precisely state the figure and when EPS would officially ask for the increase in 2010. EPS favors huge price hike Markovic said, during a conference on the role of energy in the development of Serbia's economy, that the Energy Agency, which is an independent regulatory body, had assessed that it would be appropriate to increase the price of electric power. Markovic also said that owing to investments in thermo plants during previous years, EPS reached an annual production of three billion kilowatt-hours. The price of electricity in Serbia increased on average by ten percent on March 1.
