Former Red Star FC president and club legend Dragan Džajić has been indicted for abusing office and embezzling money from player transfers.

Former Red Star FC president and club legend Dragan Dzajic has been indicted for abusing office and embezzling money from player transfers. Other former Red Star officials Vladimir Cvetkovic and Milos Marinkovic, as well as manager Ranko Stojic, have been indicted as well. The indictment was formally submitted on June 15. Previously, an investigation was launched against the four suspects regarding the transfers of former Red Star players Goran Drulic, Zoran Njegus, Perica Ognjenovic, Nemanja Vidic and Ivan Dudic. A Belgrade court already investigated Dzajica, Marinkovica and Cvetkovica in February 2008 regarding the case of Drulic’s transfer, which was later extended to four other suspicious transfers. The former club officials could face 12 years in prison each if found guilty. They were arrested on February 5, 2008, and spent five months in custody. Dzajic and Cvetkovic were investigated on suspicion that they stole 3.5mn German marks as Njegus transferred from Red Star to Atletico Madrid. Dzajic and Marinkovic were also suspected of taking a further EUR 2mn from the transfer of Vidic to Moscow’s Spartak, while Dzajic and Stojic were suspected of stealing DM 5mn in as Ognjenovic joined Real Madrid. When they gave their statement to the judge, none of the players accused the Red Star officials of any wrongdoing or of stealing any money from them in the deals in question. The prosecution's statement today in Belgrade does not give the exact amount of money that suspected of being embezzling, nor does it state which transfers were covered by its case.

The indictment was formally submitted on June 15.
