IM: Drug smugglers were laundering money

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says a heroin-smuggling group arrested yesterday smuggling is suspected of investing the drug money into legal businesses. Dacic said that the criminal group made up of Muslims and Serbs had been smuggling heroin from Turkey through the so-called Balkan Route. The group arrested yesterday was led by Serif Mehmedovic from the town of Novi Pazar in the southwestern Sandzak. Police also seized 15.5 kilograms of heroin in the raids. Beside Mehmedovic, police also arrested Danijel Djurdjevic and Nenad Matic from Belgrade, Admir Koca and Salem Sacirovic from Novi Pazar, Emir Lakota from Sjenica and Rudi Gojak from Prijepolje. Mehmedovic transferred more than a million euros to Turkey in order to buy the heroin, said the Serbian police, who are still looking for two more suspects, named as Mersad Ljajic and Safet Muric.
