A police service fighting organized crime cooperated with the Special Prosecution for Organized Crime to arrested members of two organized crime groups. The groups operated on the territory of Belgrade and Novi Sad and were headed by suspects identified as Zeljko Kostic and Tibor Vinker, Interior Minister Ivaca Dacic stated on Sunday. IM hails “historic cooperation” “This is a historic action of our police and prosecution, primarily because for the first time, the police and institutions in which concealed investigators were engaged used the measures of simulated legal business,” Dacic said, adding that the details would be made public in the coming days. He explained that the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) is entitled to take such measures, according to its authorization, and based on the regulations envisaged by the Law on Criminal Proceeding. According to an order of investigative judge of the Special Department for Suppression of Organized Crime of the Belgrade High Court, a number of companies were registered, and upon orders of the heads of the criminal groups, money was paid in and taken from accounts of the companies, while false business documentation was issued and made, Dacic explained. In such a manner, direct evidence on illegal activities of the heads of the criminal groups were gathered, including the owners of over 500 companies, who withdrew and paid in funds to the accounts of the companies that the police established in order to avoid paying taxes, Dacic said. “In such a manner, the organizers criminally obtained over a half million euros, whereas the owners of the 500 companies illegally obtained over five million euros, taking out money from legal financial flows,” the minister said. According to him, this camapaign was a clear warning to everyone involved in criminal activities that the police, in cooperation with the prosecution, will in future implement the system of concealed investigators.
