He told daily Danas that there are countries in the EU that are a bit hesitant, however. Hungarian FM expects SAA ratification to begin “Some member-states of the EU believe that we should wait until the International Court of Justice gives its opinion on Kosovo independence, in order to be ready to also support forwarding the candidacy bid to from the Council of Ministers to the European Commission as well,” he said. “Hungary will be one of the first countries to ratify the SAA with Serbia,” Martonyi said. He said that some countries are hesitant about forwarding Serbia’s candidacy bid to the EC, though he said that Hungary supports doing this as soon as possible. “We are convinced that it is essentially a technical question and the that the Commission should be given the change to start working on its opinion as soon as possible, because it is a very complex matter, the questionnaire must be created, Serbia must answer it, the Commission then must evaluate these answers,” he said. Martonyi visited Belgrade and Subotica this week, where he met with President Tadic, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and Vojvodina Hungarian leaders.
