Suitcase Affair ruling “scandalous”
Opposition SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vučić said on Thursday in Belgrade that the outcome of the so-called <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/crimes-article.php?yyyy=2010&mm=05&dd=21&nav_id=67292" class="text-link" target= "_blank">Suitcase Affair</a> trial was “scandalous”.

Opposition SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday in Belgrade that the outcome of the so-called Suitcase Affair trial was “scandalous”. Former National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Vice Governor Dejan Simic and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) official Vladimir Zagradjanin were acquitted of charges of accepting bribes. Suitcase Affair ruling “scandalous” Vucic said that such a ruling has discredited the Serbian justice system. “This is a scandal on an unprecedented scale. Such a ruling has discredited and completely destroyed Serbia's justice system. Are these the results of the justice system reform that we have fought for?” Vucic told reporters today. According to him, the judge excluded transcripts of conversations of the accused from evidence, which could have revealed the intention of bribery, and that the prosecutor did not lodge an appeal following such a decision. Simic and Zagradjanin were acquitted last week. The indictment charged them with taking part in bribery, which should have influenced the NBS to reinstate license to operate to Kreditno Eksportna Bank (member of the TBI Group in Belgrade). The pair were arrested in Simic's Belgrade apartment where police found a suitcase with EUR 100,000 on January 11, 2006, and as a result the case has been referred to as the Suitcase Affair.

Vučić said that such a ruling has discredited the Serbian justice system.“This is a scandal on an unprecedented scale. Such a ruling has discredited and completely destroyed Serbia's justice system.
