Police have apprehended a member of the Pancevo Municipal Council and the rresident of New Serbia (NS) local party board, reports said. The man has been identified as Milanko Andrejic, Beta news agency has learned. Party official taken into custody Andrejic is suspected of requesting and taking EUR 3,000 in bribes from a local NGO in order to grant it the organization of a “carnival” in the town, just northeast of Belgrade. He also demanded the money in order to allocate RSD 1mn from the city budget to the NGO. Andrejic was spotted around 10:00 CET on Wednesday while he was exiting a police car accompanied by two police officers wearing uniforms, and three plainclothes inspectors. He was then taken inside the city administration headquarters, according to Beta. The suspect will be remanded for 48-hour in police custody, and should appear before the investigative judge tomorrow. The Interior Ministry (MUP) and the prosecution are expected to issue an official announcement during the day.
