FM praises Mali's support over Kosovo

Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić expressed gratitude to Mali on Friday for not having recognized the Kosovo Albanian UDI.

Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic expressed gratitude to Mali on Friday for not having recognized the Kosovo Albanian UDI. He also expressed gratitude over the African country's decision to support Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that “nowadays, such a principled stand proves independence and courage of a country”. FM praises Mali's support over Kosovo “It is not easy to support sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia nowadays. It takes autonomy, principle and courage to do so, and Mali definitely has that,” Jeremic stated at a joint press conference with visting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali Moctar Ouane. “Just like Serbia, Mali is resistant to pressure and for that reason, Mali can count on Serbia's support in the international organizations, just as Serbia can count on Mali's support,” Jeremic stated. Ouane said that regarding its foreign affairs policy, Mali has uncompromising commitment to the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. “That is the key principle of our foreign policy and a crucial principle that regulates international law,” Ouane said, adding that this primarily refers to the United Nations Charter and the African Union Charter. The two ministers recalled that Serbia and Mali have a long history of friendship, international support and understanding that is maintained today as well, adding that the two countries will mark 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations next year. The two countries share the same views on the problem of the Kosovo and Metohija status, Jeremic and Titov said, expressing their readiness to “continue coordinating joint activities in that regard”. They also agreed on the need for fostering economic cooperation. Also in Belgrade on Thursday, Jeremic met with Nigerian Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi. They “noted with satisfaction the readiness for improvement of friendly relations between the two countries and stressed the need for intensifying cooperation in the fields of industry and economy,” the MFA statement said. Jeremic thanked Nigeria for the support which the country, as a member of the UN Security Council and one of the most influential states of the African continent, continuously gives to Serbia in its diplomatic fight for the preservation of its territorial integrity.
