Death threats against Serbian President Boris Tadic have emerged on the Facebook social network. The president's ruling Democratic Party (DS) wants authorities in Serbia to react. Threats against Tadic on Facebook DS Spokeswoman Jelena Trivan stated that there was a Facebook group dubbed, “Tadic, the armored Merc is in vain, when you open the door a sniper awaits you” and asked “competent authorities to react to the threats”. “We expect that state authorities’ reaction will be the most fierce and strong and we think that all competent institutions, from security to judicial ones, should react,” Trivan was quoted as saying in Belgrade today. She also added that she expected a very strong reaction “from political parties and media”. According to the spokeswoman, there is a serious fallacy in the public regarding the roles of criminals and victims. “Nowadays everybody, even those who jeopardize other people’s safety, are calling on their own endangered safety and it’s clear who is endangered in Serbia today and why,” Trivan was quoted. She said that the threats against the president were made because of the decisive fight against organized crime led by Tadic, the government and the ruling coalition. According to the DS spokeswoman, there must be serious condemnation of occurrences such as the Facebook group, where users freely and using their full names make threats against the president.
