Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic stated that Serbia will act "llike a bridge between China and the EU in the future”. “By achieving (EU) candidate status Serbia will gain a much better position for improvement of trade, so in those terms I expect that Serbia will represent a bridge between China and the EU,” she said today in Belgrade, while meeting with a delegation of the Chinese Gansu province. "Serbia bridge between China and EU" The speaker also expressed Serbia’s gratitude for China’s principal support regarding unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo, said an official statement after the meeting. The Chinese delegation was led by Director of Gansu Provincial People’s Congress and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Lu Hao. Djukic-Dejanovic and Lu have agreed that traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and China were an excellent base for improvement of parliamentary cooperation. The head of the Chinese delegation emphasized the importance of regional economic cooperation and expressed a wish for Gansu would become a "sister province of a region in Serbia". Djukic-Dejanovicev invited Chinese investors to continue to invest in Serbia, "considering that parliament adopted a series of acts which have created an investment-safe climate". The speaker thanked Chinese National People’s Congress Chairman Wu Bangguo for inviting her to visit Beijing, and invited him to be a guest of the Serbian parliament.
