Daily: Croatia angry over conference

Belgrade daily Blic writes that Croatia is "angry at Serbia" for not attending the Western Balkans conference in Slovenia last weekend. Serbia's condition for taking part in the gathering was for the Kosovo Albanian delegation to be represented as Kosovo-UNMIK. The informal event was co-organized by Slovenia and Croatia. Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, meanwhile, said in Belgrade that the translations were requested from Croatia and that "they will be requested again if need be", but said that this issue should not be politicized. The translations story began in the fall of 2008, at a conference which was attended by Serbia. A regional memorandum was then formulated for the exchange of these documents. Former Croatian PM Ivo Sanader also announced that the translations would be given to Serbia, but this never materialized. However, once Croatia wraps up its accession process, which Zagreb hopes will happen in 2011, the government will be obligated to publish the translations on the internet. Unofficially, Belgrade and Zagreb political circles are saying that Serbia is not getting the documents so that “its decision not to attendance the conference will be expensive”. According to Blic’s sources, Croatia will probably give the documents to Serbia at the Sarajevo regional conference that will be organized by the Spanish EU presidency in either May or June. Serbia will be at the meeting because Spain has already officially stated that Kosovo can only participate as Kosovo-UNMIK at the meeting. Kosor distributed the translations on DVD discs, which include hundreds of thousands of translations of about 13,000 legal acts.
