This would have come if he successfully mediated in the sales of daily Vecernje Novosti to the German company at the end of 2002. Cooperation of WAZ and daily’s editor? WAZ stated that it had made an agreement on consultant services with Vecernje Novosti Director and Editor-in-Chief Manojlo Vukotic. According to their announcement, the daily's editor has received a EUR 75,000 fee for 2002. The contract was made on December 5, 2002 and the signatories were Lutz Glandt, Bodo Hombach and Vukotic. He was described in the contract as an expert with extensive experience in the field of print media in the territory of former Yugoslavia. The contract was entered into for an indefinite period of time, and Vukotic was bound not to do the same job for another company during its validity. Law firm Joksovic, Stojanovic and Partners sent Glandt and Hombah the account numbers where EUR 75,000 was supposed to be paid to. According to this, two thirds of the amount were supposed to be paid to an account in Rome, while another EUR 50,000 to an account in a bank in Szeged. Along with the account numbers, the statement said that Vukotic sent a request to pay the money in several installments to his son's account in Milan was sent because he was planning on buying an apartment with that money. The second half in the amount of EUR 37,500 was paid to an account opened under the name of Radojko Mrljes to a Hungarian bank on May 27, 2003, WAZ said in a statement sent to B92. Vukotic denies accusations Meanwhile, Vukotic has denied ever signing a contract regarding the sale of daily Vecernje Novosti with German media group WAZ. “I could not have sold or mediated because Novosti was majority owned by small shareholders. Novosti could have been sold only publically, in the stock exchange, like it was done in 2005 when the ownership structure changed. With WAZ, or better yet with its President Bodo Hombah, I signed a contract on consultant services in 2002 for the territory of the entire former Yugoslavia, because they thought of me as the best expert for the situation at this entire media scene. We did not fulfill the agreement because their interests had exceeded their framework and they arrogantly went for buying Novosti,” Vukotic explained. “I wanted to avoid that at any cost,” he added and explained that “contract had been tacitly terminated”. “This is now their dirty revenge because they haven’t managed to buy Novosti until this very day, and I hope they won’t. I will file charges for false accusations to the competent court,” Vukotic concluded.
