NATO South Wing Commander Admiral Mark Fitzgerald said that the transfer of authority to local police is a sign of improved security in Kosovo. “We transfer responsibility for Gazimestan, which is a clear success for the Kosovo people and KFOR. The entire cultural heritage is a part of everyone who lives in Kosovo. The transfer of authority for protecting Gazimestan and the improved work of the Kosovo security forces are a successful story of the events in Kosovo,” he said. Bentler said that KFOR is not part of the plan for the integration of northern Kosovo and that it cannot offer help in implementing it, but said that KFOR could react if needed to maintain security and safety in Kosovo.
