Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said that the recent increase in soldiers serving military duties in uniform shows that trust has been restored to the army. He said that the March class will be one of the last to serve a military term in uniform before the military goes professional, adding that he wants their time in uniform to remain a positive memory. Sutanovac said that this is a sign that the army has once again gained the trust of the people. The Defense Minister said that without respecting the traditions of old, there can be no modernization of the army, adding that the Serbian Army has three missions to fulfill—to defend the country, help civilians, and participate in peacekeeping operations. “We want to do this job as the pride of the Serbian citizens, and especially the parents, who trusted us with training and schooling their children,” Sutanovac said, calling on officers and those of higher rank to treat the young soldiers as if they were their own children.
