The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) stated that Serbia’s refusal to participate in the regional conference in Slovenia is very damaging. LDP added that Serbia is once again behaving in a way no one understands, because it is symbolically and realistically not participating in an important conference which concerns the country’s European future. "Serbia missing out on important conference" It also shows that Serbia has not yet decided to dedicate itself to faster European integration and to meet with Kosovo officials to talk about improving the standard of living for people who live in Kosovo, LDP stated. The worst thing that can happen at this moment to the European efforts of the society that wants to enter the EU, is for the government to make such decisions that politically feed the anti-European forces by giving them room to triumph with politics that distanced us from Europe up until 2008. The citizens did not vote for these politics and these decisions cause great damage to the pro-European and pro-reform forces in the society, LDP states. LDP stated that there is nothing European about avoiding discussions, which is the worst possible signal that can be sent to the EU at a time when it must decide on Serbia’s candidacy application. Confusing messages are being sent from Belgrade that no one in the region or in Brussels can understand, and which lead to difficult situations for all politicians and countries that support Serbia’s fast EU integration. LDP stated that at the conference, Slovenia will show itself as an active EU member-state, Croatia will confirm that it is a credible partner in the Western Balkans and that it is entering the EU, and Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina will show that, with entrance into NATO, they are working together to fulfill the conditions for being accepted into the EU. The party stated that Kosovo will also show at the conference that it is a community that is determined to enter NATO and the EU. Serbia will in its eyes and the eyes of the European Union, return to where it is voluntarily disowning its chances to decide on its own fate and show that it is ready to solve its problems in a European manner, LDP stated. The party also expressed concern over the fact that the Foreign Ministry is using this situation to show Serbia’s refusal to attend the conference as a victory for its destructive policies in the region.
