Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic said that over a million people have signed the petition for early elections. He said that SNS will submit the petition to the government in ten days. SNS says it has one million signatures “We gathered and systemized more than a million signatures from citizens who are asking for changes and who are aware that change can occur from early elections,” Nikolic said. He told a news conference in Belgrade on Monday that the signatures were gathered quickly because of the general dissatisfaction of the citizens with the work of the government, which he said has allowed “chaos” in the country, adding that the campaign will be continued “door to door” and that SNS will then have better data on people's "mood and living conditions". Nikolic said that the citizens are aware that the government has not done anything new over the last ten years either when it comes to privatizations, or construction of infrastructure, but that it managed to produce many affairs. Nikolic said that Serbia “does not have a criminal that is not tied to some politician.” He said that the Serbian government "will have to talk" about the petition that SNS will submit, and said that the party will not call for protests if this does not occur. “We will see what the people who signed the demand for calling early elections think about this. I think that politics should not mix with worker protests, but if they are organizing calling for the government to change, then there's room for politics there,” Nikolic said. He added that a rally could be organized in which opposition parties would gather, adding that even some parties of the ruling coalition could be attending. Nikolic said that the financing of SNS is public and that there are no big financers, adding that officials set aside money for the party, and that he donated EUR 3,000 this year.
