Serbia to open new military missions

Deputy Director of the Military Intelligence Agency Dragan Vladisavljevic says Serbia will in 2010 open its military missions in Spain, Libya, Bosnia and Iraq. Presenting the report on the work of VOA (Vojno Obavestajna Agencija) in 2009 to the parliament's Defense and Security Committee, Vladisavljevic explained that the reason for the establishment of a MoD mission in Spain is that country's position on Kosovo. Serbia to open new military missions The missions in Libya and Iraq will serve to further military economic cooperation and facilitate the Serbian military industry's return to those markets, while Bosnia is a neighboring country with a large Serb population, he said. Serbia already has 19 military missions across the world. He said that VOA, with its planned, organized and constant work in cooperation with other parts of Serbia's defense system, has done everything to provide the defense system leadership with information and data relevant to making decisions important for the country's security. According to VOA deputy director, as part of those activities the agency studied and monitored the military security situation in the region, activities in countries which have a direct or indirect influence on security in Serbia, and extremists and organized crime groups in Kosovo and Metohija. VOA representatives said that the agency monitors Islamic fundamentalists in Kosovo, who continued their operation in the province after the unilateral declaration of independence.
