Belgrade daily Blic writes that the Serbian parliament would start a debate on a resolution on Srebrenica on February 2. The plans are to get the resolution onto the parliamentary agenda as soon as possible, as well as another, condemning all crimes committed against Serbs in the former Yugoslavia. MPs to debate Srebrenica next month? Blic states that the only differences in the ruling coalition are whether to define the crimes in Srebrenica as genocide, which the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will not agree to, or to call it a “serious crime,” which the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) does not accept. SPS will be offered a new version, by which the Srebrenica massacre will be treated as a serious crime. However, in the special preamble, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will be quoted, where it was stated that genocide against the Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) occurred in Srebrenica. This would both meet the demands of SPS and LDP, Blic’s source stated. “The resolution would have to have the idea of genocide included in it as a qualification of what happened in Srebrenica,” legal expert Radoslav Stojanovic said. He said that the resolution should include what was said in the ICJ verdict. “The ICJ verdict has all the important stances. Serbia did not commit genocide, nor is it responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica, but it is for no doing anything to stop it. If the highest court of the UN used the word genocide for what happened in that region, then the resolution for condemning what happened must be qualified as such,” he said.
