A Montenegrin parliamentary official says the “radicalization of relations between Serbia and Montenegro” would harm Serbia’s progress toward the EU. Miodrag Vukovic, who chairs the Montenegrin Parliament’s International Relations Committee, also spoke against this. Worsening of ties "bad for Serbia’s EU integrations” “Relations between Serbia and Montenegro should not be radicalized. The Serbian ambassador has been called home for consultations. Communication on the state level has been currently suspended, hopefully for a short period of time,” Vukovic to Radio Free Europe, and added that he did not believe that it was in Serbia’s best interest “to make any radical moves”. “I believe that this matter will be resolved rationally,” he said. “There are 27 members in that EU. 23 or 24, I don’t know exactly how many of them, have recognized Kosovo and have their ambassadors there. What is Serbia thinking? That EU integrations will go so smoothly after punishing Montenegro for establishing diplomatic relations with Pristina? Well, they will not go at all,” Vukovic warned. He pointed out that “all requests toward the EU are reviewed by each EU member before the EU institutions make their decision”. “Will 23 countries which have recognized Kosovo and established diplomatic relations with show understanding toward a country that punished its neighbor for doing the same as those 23 countries,” wondered he. “From a purely logical point of view, things have been taking a turn towards irrational,” Vukovic concluded.
