Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Cedomir Jovanovic leader said that his party is not entering the government. He said that LDP joining the government would only increase internal differences and disagreements. LDP “not entering government” “LDP cannot be a part of the ruling coalition because of what we want to do for Serbia. We can only increase internal disagreement, which would be irresponsible towards the people of the country, considering the situation Serbia is currently in,” Jovanovic told the Beta news agency. “We can be partners and I hope that we will be more effective than we were in 2009 in all European jobs the government is working on, and the government should think about its obligations according to the criteria it confirmed itself, first and foremost Serbia’s candidacy for EU membership,” Jovanovic said. He said that the government can count on support from LDP in situations in which there is a problem in the process of European integration. He said that after EU candidacy, the most important question will be the speed at which Serbia will continue its integration. “We care whether the process will be slowed by the anti-NATO demagogy which DS has accepted or whether there will an effective and fast readiness to face the prejudices. It is not unimportant for us whether the process will be sloppy because of the demagogy of DS, which is recognized as such in regional politics regardless of whether we are talking about the fits of Vuk Jeremic regarding Kosovo or the suits filed against Croatia 15 years after the Storm operation, just because someone will be satisfied in that way, that over-emphasized nationalistic portion of the voting public that is now thinking about whether to support DS or (Tomislav) Nikolic.” Jovanovic said. He said that LDP’s goal is control the speed of the government’s completion of conditions needed for Serbia’s EU candidacy, adding that LDP will be stricter towards the government than any other party.
