The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) MP Balint Pastor says the government has a stable majority in parliament. He added that SVM – which recently decided not to vote for the 2010 state budget – is part of that majority, "as proven by the SVM votes in favor of the 2009 budget rebalance which was adopted on Tuesday". "Cabinet has majority, SVM supports it" “The rebalance could not have been adopted without the votes of four SVM MPs, and today's events prove what I have been saying for the past week – we had no intention of bringing down the government and we continue to support it. With our support, the government has a stable majority,” Pastor told reporters in parliament on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday in Belgrade, ruling Democratic Party (DS) spokeswoman Jelena Trivan stated that the break-up of the local coalition with the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians in the northern town of Subotica did not mean that the relations between the two parties would be redefined on the state level. “Our colleagues who have had operational and functional problems for a year now regarding the functioning of the town autonomy will in cooperation with their coalition partners find a way to solve them. But that does not mean that the relations will be changed on the state level and general conclusions should not be drawn,” she told reporters. The DS spokeswoman added that “emotions were stirred because SVM had not voted for the 2010 budget”, but that the relations in one municipality should not be transferred to those on the state level. Trivan stated that she did not know whether there were any talks with SVM, but that she "assumed that these problems were being discussed lively these days” in Subotica, and that it was "not the first time that this topic was debated".
