Parliament elects 876 judges

The Serbian parliament elected 876 judges to three-year mandates in general and special courts around the country. It also elected 88 deputy prosecutors. Parliament elects 876 judges The judges and prosecutors were elected on the proposal of the Legislative Supreme Council and the State Prosecution Council. The Council selected 1,531 judges to permanent positions, and MPs decided today an the first election of 876 judges to three-year mandates. The Law on Judges states that by December 1, 2009, judges for a new network of courts should be selected in order to begin working on January 1, 2010. As far as the deputy prosecutors are concerned, it was the first election of 88 deputies for basic, higher and appeal prosecutions in Serbia. The judges and prosecutors will be sworn in at 10:00 CET on Wednesday before Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic.
