There has been no political pressure during the recent reelection of judges, Chair of the Parliament Justice and Administration Committee Bosko Ristic says. However, President of the Association of Judges of Serbia Dragana Boljevic, who has not been reelected, mentioned several examples which in her opinion clearly show that judges were elected according to political bias. Judge selection controversy continues Judge Omer Hadziomerovic thinks that the reelection process was not transparent and that the Venice Commission has had objections. “I claim that there was no political influence. The fact is that none of parliament members knew whose name was going to be on that list," Ristic told B92. “There is a judge who was transferred from a municipal court to the Court of Appeals, even though the procedure for his dismissal had been initiated. It is as if a corporal suddenly became a lieutenant colonel,” says Boljevic. “This was an election of judges who were nominated for the position and all those who have not been reelected were automatically dismissed. You have to follow some rules and the Venice Commission has clearly stated that the judges must have a right to appeal and to receive an explanation as to why they were not elected,” stated Hadziomerovic.
