The National Guard, according to a FoNet news agency report, "has been persuading Pentagon for 18 months to approve this". Macedonian soldiers go to Afghanistan The Macedonian military has been cooperating with this formation since 1994, as part of a U.S. government program aimed at strengthening Washington's strategic ties with former communist countries. During the past 15 years, Macedonian and U.S. soldiers took part in joint drills held in both countries, the report said.
