Serbian President and Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic said that policies of development are the best social policies. Speaking at the congress of Rasim Ljajic’s Social Democratic Party (SDP), Tadic said that parties of Social Democratic orientation in Serbia must pay attention to the most endangered members of society, but also to the stability and financial sustainability of the state. Tadic: Development policies needed “Parties that are being formed need to ask themselves the question of what their purpose is. SDP must be dedicated to the part of our population that is hit by the most difficult social problems. In that sense, DS considers SDP to be the closest party to itself —its sister party,” he said. The DS leader said that both parties are trying to give answers to the challenges of the times, questions which European parties of the left have not been able to answer effectively enough. “We who are left of the center have the obligation to, in the coming months and years, focus all our activities towards the people who need help the most,” Tadic said. “However, the best social policy is the policy of development and growth,” he said. He said that the country cannot continue to solve problems temporarily by taking out money from the budget to help those in need, but must solve the long-term problems by investing in development and infrastructure. “Every investment and debt which secures development is morally justified,” Tadic said, adding that in this sense, the ruling coalition parties have full social responsibility.
