The parties of Serbia's ruling coalition are hailing the EU decision to unblock the Interim Trade Agreement (ITA). At the same time, some opposition parties are minimizing the importance of the move. Political parties on unfreezing of ITA The ruling Democratic Party (DS) spokeswoman Jelena Trivan said on Monday that the unfreezing of ITA is a mutual success of the Serbian government, parliament and the public. The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) official Milos Aligrudic assessed that the unfreezing “will not repair the damage caused by the unilateral enforcement of this act”. The trade part of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) – which will still not be ratified – has been implemented by Serbia unilaterally since the start of this year. The opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) Whip Dragan Todorovic told Tanjug that Serbia was severely damaged by the unilateral implementation, and that the unfreezing is only “a smoke screen whose aim is to keep the Serbian citizens in belief that they will enter the EU.” President of the opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Cedomir Jovanovic stated that the unblocking of the ITA is great news for the citizens and that he “recognizes the important and huge influence of the work of the LDP” in it. RulingG17 plus Vice-President Suzana Grubjesic said that the move is a recognition of the reforms which Serbia undertakes on its pathway to the EU integration. Leader of the ruling United Serbia (JS) Dragan Markovic Palma evaluated that the economic position of the citizens of Serbia will improve after the unfreezing of the Interim Trade Agreement. President of the opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic said that this is “an expected move addressed at Serbia, not at the government or the opposition.” President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Milos Bugarin, also commented on the news by saying that this act will have a positive influence on attracting the foreign investors to Serbia, because it represents the guarantee that the business ambient in Serbia will be in accordance with the EU standards.

Political parties on unfreezing of ITA

The ruling Democratic Party (DS) spokeswoman Jelena Trivan said on Monday that the unfreezing of ITA is a mutual success of the Serbian government, parliament and the public.
